Our cabin at Dale Hollow has a floor that runs downhill toward the lake. Is the whole thing sliding?
Almost never. What we usually find is the downhill side sitting on fill or on posts that have settled while the uphill side holds. The survey shows a steady tilt one way, and piers or new supports on the low side bring it back.
We only get up to the lake place a few weekends a year. Will you work while we're not there?

Our house in town is close to the river. Does that bottom land settle forever?

The block wall on the hill side of our basement has a crack running sideways. Should we worry?
A horizontal crack in a wall holding back a hillside deserves a look soon. It's the typical sign of wet soil pushing the wall inward. Bracing on the inside and drainage on the outside is how we handle it.
